If a patient is brought to a physician office via wheelchair and or stretcher direct from inpatient at the hospital can this be billed as an inpatient consult. The physician office is connected to the hospital via a walk way.

Patients in 'Hospital Inpatient Status' in the hospital, officially, are to be seen by a consult at the floor only, be it initial or subsequent visit. OV is not accepted as long as the patient is in Hospital Inpatient Status". Once she/he is discharged from the hospital , can be seen for a consult as an OV.
This is my view. Could any one throw some more light on this please?

We also have this situation on occasion, where our office is located right at the hospital. Since the patient is in an "inpatient" status, we can only charge inpatient services.

Yes indeed . The consultant can see the patient depending upon his permit of time, place,
and his availabilty and so on at the concurrence and request and soforth. there is no restriction in that. But for official purpose, the patient's INPATIENT STATUS, is the one which is accounted for.
