I am new to coding( currently taking the courses but am responsible for the charges in my ortho office) and have a question regarding inpatient consults following an initial consult with a fracture or surgery. If a physician sees the patient for consecutive days after the surgery or diagnosis of a fracture in the hospital does he/she charge for a consultation (for instance, 99231)or does the same rule apply that these visits are included in the global period as in an office setting?

Thanks for any help you can give !

Most of the time all additional visits/consultations are going to be bundled into the surgical package, unless a significant new problem develops that is unrelated to the surgery. Even if you try to bill them (I wouldn't advise it), the payer will deny as part of the surgical package.
