I am looking at coding infusion times for hydration.

The pt. received hydration (1000cc normal saline) over 180 minutes.

The way I understand this, in order to bill for a 2nd hour the time has to be in incremnts of greater than 30 minutes. I am taking it that the first hour would then be up to 90 minutes. The 2nd hour would then start at 91 minutes and have to run for an additional 91 minutes to bill for the 3rd hour.

1min-90min = 1st hour
91min-181min = 2nd hour
182 min-272min = 3rd hour

Please help me clarify this question.

If your hydration infused over 180 minutes, code 3 hours of hydration.

You are correct that in order to bill the second hour there must be at least 91 minutes of infusion time. But, to code for one hour, you need at least 31 minutes to code one hour. So, the 1st hour of hydration includes 31-90 minutes of infusion time, the 2nd hour includes 91-150 minutes and the 3rd hour includes 151-210 minutes.

If you like using minutes, take your total time in minutes and divide by 60 (minutes in an hour) to arrive at the number of hours. Then, if your remaining minutes are 31 or greater, add another hour to code your hydration.

I hope I haven't confused you. :)
