could I have help with a dx code for Sigmoid colon, Polyp, polypectomy:
Polypoid piece of colonic mucosa with focal inflamed stroma.
Thanks in advance.
 
The stroma is the connective tissue.

Could this be an inflammatory polyp: 556.4?

Was this the only specimen reported with this case? If not, is there a more generalized process going on?
 
If this is the only specimen, I would be inclined to go with 556.4, but I would confirm it with my pathologist.
 
confirming with a pathologist isn't possible in this case unfortunately. One of the Dr's offices that uses our facility started there own lab. They do not have anyone to do the diagnosis aspect so it has been dropped in my lap with I think is far from fair since I have no path coding experience. Gets very frustrating as you can imagine.
