Patient was diagnosed with infection of the vein donor site (right leg)
after coronary bypass surgery. Notes indicate "cellulitis of donor site (right leg)"
Would correct diagnosis be:

(1) 996.62, infection and inflammatory reaction due to vascular device, implant and graft
or
(2) 682.6, cellulitis of leg, except foot.

It is my opinion the latter is correct.

thank you for your replies.

I'm leaning towards the latter as well. The first one sounds like it relates to the site that received the device/implant/graft.

There's also a code for "other post op infection" - 998.59. Not sure if that would be appropriate.
