I am kinda confused on this one.
My doc was doing a total hip and while doing so, cracked the femur which had to be repaired with cables.
How should I code this? Add a fracture diagnosis code with the date of injury being the date of surgery? List 2 CPT codes, one for the total hip arthroplasty which we DO charge for, and one for repair of the fracture which we DO NOT charge for?
I don't think it is correct to just charge out for a total hip when there was a complication during the surgery that had to be repaired in addition to the procedure that the patient was scheduled for.
Need all the help I can get on this one.
