Hi Friends ,
I have a doubt about use of immunization administration code 90472.If a 12year old boy received 3 vaccination and counselling also provided in the same session.how can we code this?
90460 for initial vaccine, then can we use 90472 for each additional vaccine?
in CPT Bookthere is an instrustional note 90472 can be use in conjuction with 90460.
Can you explain how to use these codes?
 
Is there a reason you are not considering the use of 90461 in addition to the 90460 for the vaccines?
 
Immunization administration

How you bill these depends on which 3 vaccines were administered and the total number of components in the vaccines. Counseling was given (for all vaccines?.. you didn't say) but assuming it was you would use the 90460 and 90461 administration codes.

As an example, if 2 vaccines each with 4 components were given with counseling, your administration codes would be 90460x2 and 90461x6 (8 components administered).
The code descriptors for 90460 and 90461 reference components whereas for 90471 and 90472 they reference vaccines (single or combination). Of course, you can have a combination of types of administration which is why you can code 90472 with 90460 and 90471.

Thank you for your reply. Can you explain in which situation 90472 use with 90460? please give an example for this. In CPT book it mentioned like that. so am confused .90461 for additional component of a single vaccine. but 90472 for each additional vaccine.Then we are using 90460 x2 or 90460 and 90472 for two vaccines

90461 is for each additional component of a single vaccine. am asking about additional vaccine
