I am trying to bill for a patient that has had positive urine drug screenings (done in office) for Methamphetamine, Benzodiazepine, and Cannibus. The urine drug screening code, 791.9 indicates nonspecific findings. These are pretty specific though.

The codes for drug use, specify dependent (304 codes) or non-dependent (305 codes). I do not know, nor does the doctor, whether they are dependent on these substances or just a frequent user.

The other drug test codes specify the test of blood, not urine.

Anyone have any tips?

Thanks!

Thank you for your input! I'm just questioning if I can use this, considering we didn't do the drug screen for any legal reasons. The exam that I bill at that same visit, will be part of a global code. That code would not be appropriate to use on the global code I'm billing. any other suggestions?

The only other thing I can think of is V82.9. Sorry I can't think of a better code, but it sounds like you don't have much documentation to work with.
