Wiki ICD-9 for PTTD

I have a question regarding PTTD (posterior tibial tendon dysfunction) I want to code both 726.72 and 734 when coding this, but I'm wondering if there are times where only one or the other code would just be used. How do you code pttd? Thank you

Hi Rachel,

It has been my experience that 734 (flat foot) gets denied a lot from insurance companies because it lacks medical necessity. PTTD is a tricky one; I would code the 726.72 & then the 734 as the secondary diag.

You could probably get away with just the 726.72 but if the notes specify flat foot, it might be better to use it as a secondary diag just in case.

734 can be billed alone, but as I stated it does have a high denial rate.
