Sorry...maybe a a stupid question.........I recently bought the 2015 ICD-10 book to do some online training. Will it be necessary to purchase the 2016 ICD-10 book? I assume they are the same since we haven't "used" them yet.
However, there were quite a lot of changes between ICD-10-CM 2014 draft and the 2015 draft. Chances are that they made more changes between 2015draft and 2016 final copy of the book.
I think we may have to buy the actual 2016 version of the book.
There are no changes for Oct 1, 2015. The 2014, 2015, and 2016 codes sets are all identical.
I also spoke with my coding teacher from 2006 and she stated that we are good to use the 2015 book, updated guidelines are available on the cms website.
There were no changes between the 2014 and the 2015 versions. In November 2014 the guidelines were updated with a slight clarification for the definition of initial encounter. However the codes were not revised at all. Then in June the announcement was made that there would be no changes for the Oct 1 2015 edition. And so far there have been no updates or revisions to the guidelines. The HIPAA amendment allows for code updates twice a year, October 1 and April 1. In addition updates to the guidelines can occur whenever they feel there is a need.
So truely the 2014, 2015, and 2016 codes are identical.
