I just passed the CPC and have the credentials CPC-A but, I can't find anyone willing to hire a CPC-A. Everyone seems to want years of experience. I've applied for over 100 positions in the past 2 months to no avail. I have 15+ years of medical experience just not Billing and Coding. I've worked in both the clinical and clerical areas of hospitals and physician practices.

When my last position was eliminated I thought I would improve my chances of finding a position by obtaining my degree and CPC credentials. So far, that hasn't really helped. Does anyone have any advice? I've been applying even if they require experience in case the company is willing to take a chance on someone who is eager to work and learn more.

Thanks, your responses are appreciated.

Hi Sue-
It can be difficult to get a "foot in the door". A suggestion that I have made in the past is to network with providers already familiar to you ie. pedi or OB-GYN or PCP. Another idea is to look at temp agencies as often we hire from temp situations. I hope this helps.

Also be sure to highlight all of your previous experience in the cover letter that you send with your resume. You may have to accept something in billing until they see what you can do! Good luck and keep me posted.

I would suggest going to a few of the AACP meetings near you and seeing if maybe someone if looking for help. If not billing and coding are a smaller community and someone may know of a position elsewhere
