We had a patient with 4 abscesses on their right hand & 2 abscesses on the left hand. Our surgeon did an I&D 10061 to each abscess. We are having trouble getting these processed with WPS Medicare. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to bill all 6 locations and get paid for all 6?

1 unit of 10061 covers multiple abscesses. Code description is complicated or multiple. Based on the code description there is an MUE of 1. You will be denied if you appeal the MUE denial. I'm not sure if it would qualify for 1 unit and Mod 22 but notes would be required in that circumstance.
