How do you go about getting experience and landing a job when you are over qualified or underqualified. Having a hard time being a newly CPC-A and CPB finding anything or anyone to hire me. The Xtern program is not available to me.

If you don't have any coding experience, then look for another role in the revenue cycle......front desk, patient access, medical records, pre-authorization, payment poster, etc. Once you're hired, make sure you're an outstanding employee...... work ethic is particularly important to hiring coding managers, since those jobs are usually production based.
Have someone take a look at your resume. Maybe you're not representing yourself as well as you could.
Overqualified? Says who? If you really want an entry-level position, maybe you'll have to do something that isn't an ideal role, but I guarantee that every job is an opportunity to learn.

Hello Pam,
Thank you for your feedback I have been applying to those types of positions and still not having much luck being denied due to EMR experience is a big one. I will keep looking as for resume help how do I go about that. I have tried networking too but have come up short that way. I have profiles on Indeed, Linkedin, and Ziprecruiter along with my resume on AAPC career page.

Get the coding manager s email or phone number and cold call them. Or write them a personal letter from you(no email) or if possible go visit human resource manager face to face. I did that once and politely asked what was going on. I received approved email from hospital and no other response. I got interview that day and hired. Also apply at labs, billing companies, EMR ambulance, medical device & insurance companies too. Good luck!

I agree, "over qualified" is the just of how I feel when getting the last rejections. I am not RHIT or RHIA, I have my Bachelors of Health Science and I am a licensed Medical Laboratory Scientist . I took all the RHIT/RHIA courses and more for my degree, I have EMR (Cerner, EPIC, Meditech, etc.) experience, medical terminology, I code lab like a pro (as to be expected). Worked in pathology and clinical labs 10 years so I have Hematology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, etc. and I passed my CPC---yet I am searching high and low. The CPC process was not inexpensive and I can't say the test is a cake walk, why is getting the 1st position hard! Is there a list of companies that hire new coders?
