I have a physician at the hospital who attempted to do a catheter insertion in the vein percutaneously but failed. How do they code for this or can they? Normally they would code a 36555/6.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

how about taking a stab at modifier 52? this is for reduced services - the procedure is partially reduced or eliminated (in your case)

you would bill the normal CPT with modifier 52.
