attention was directed to the posterior aspect of the calcaneous and distal aspect of the achilles where an incision was made along the lateral border of the achilles as it attached to the posterior calcaneus. dissection was carried deep to the level of the tendon as well as the calcaneus. a small amount of achilles was reflected away from the distal aspect of its insertion site laterally, and an exostosis was noted at that level. this was resected using an osteotome and a rasp. good removal was noted using direct digital palpation. the wound was then copiously flushed using normal saline and some bone wax was applied to the removed surface. at this time, the topaz was used to treat the distal achilles it was also injected with some platelet rich plasma. there was only slight minimal thickening as well as a small amount of bursal tissue that was removed from the posterior aspect of the tendon
