Patient has come in for a H&P along with signing consent for surgery. Can we bill for office visit or is it considered under the globel?
 
One E/M service prior to planned Surgery - on the day or previous Day or even the week prior to Surgery Day
 
Are you the surgeon?

Sounds like the decision for surgery was made at an earlier visit, and the patient is just coming in for a pre-op exam and to sign final consent forms. Do I have that right?

If yes, and YOU are the surgeon, this visit is GLOBAL to the surgery. It doesn't matter if you schedule it 4 days or 4 weeks in advance, the only reason for the visit is to complete admission paperwork and that work is global to the surgery.

If you are NOT the surgeon, bill the appropriate level E/M based on documented services.
