63 year old nursing resident falls down and is unresponsive. PT is brought to ER where they are resucitated. Pt is now stable on a vent and still unresponsive. Pt had ventricular fibrilation but that is now resolved. No sign of current CVA. For the physicians daily follow up visits, is the MDM still "High" or should it be "Moderate" since the patient has stablized? Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

"High MD" Making

Good morning,

If the patient remains on a ventilator and remains unresponsive, the condition is considered a threat to life (since she obviously can't come off the respirator and if taken off, she would expire). In my opinion, since she is being "kept alive" by virtue of a ventilator, the MDM remains high until she can come off the vent.

Hope this helps.
