My CEO wants me to find out what nursing care procedures we can charge for that are above and beyond the basic nursing care provided to a patient. Her examples are insertion of foley catheter, IV insertion, etc. My understanding is that these types of nursing procedures are part of the room charge. In other research I found that chargeable nursing procedures may be those associated with the nurse having a certification and/or additional training. Example: insertion of a PICC or administration of blood??
I also found that we need to have a policy and procedure defining the specific nursing procedures that are chargeable??
In my experience as a nurse at all other hospitals I worked for there were no additonal charges associated with nursing procedures. Nursing care (procedures) were included in the daily room charge.

Does anyone know anything about this? Would you be able to direct me to the appropriate site to find out more information? I have many concerns regarding this.

Thanks
