I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a specific ruling on whether we should be billing the holter monitor date as the date the patient recieves the monitor or the date they bring the monitor back.

Thank you!

Our state says that if the monitoring period is more than 24 hours, then the date of service should be the hook up date.
An LCD from Wisconsin says to use the date of of review as the DOS.
It seems like it varies from contractor to contractor.

I have been told by a consultant that either date can be used as the description on CPT lists hook up, recording, and disconnection, furthermore since the code spans two days, they both are service dates.
Hope this helps :)
Louise
