Patient had a hemiarthroplasty.

We removed the bipolar component and femoral head

we then inserted a cup and placed a femoral head on the stem

I am confused. Ordinarily doing a hemi to total hip, I would use 27132
However, it doesn't seem like there is a femoral stem being placed, just the cup and
femoral head.

Would appreciate your thoughts. As I said, this has confused me. Would I still
use 27132 ?

What if you put 52 mod on 27132 ?

You are correct.......

You would only need to use 27132. The only difference between a total and a hemi is the acetabulum reaming and prosthesis. You only need a shell, liner and femoral head. The stem need not be replaced at all.
According the 2011 Procedures manual, code 27132 states: "The physician performs a conversion of a previous hip surgery to a total hip replacement. Total hip replacement is a replacement of both the femoral head and acetabulum."
