Hello all! I have a coding scenario that I would appreciate help with.
The patient underwent a total hip arthroplasty on 4/8/13, has developed
a peri prosthetic fracture requiring a revision on 5/2/13. In this op report
the physician states "postoperative X-ray shows broken k wire, and the
decision was made for retrieval of wire, patient was then taken back to OR
for hip arthrotomy and removal of broken wire-see next op report".
Ok. I have a second op report for this day stating procedures arthrotomy,
removal of broken wire, and autologous bone grafting of the acetabulum .
Has anyone seen this before? This is a new physician for me, and my other
drs would not have finished the procedure, sent patient to recovery, then later
returned patient to surgery. Can he bill for the return procedure?
