We have patients coming to our facility for treatment of lymphedema. We treat patients with this condition with a liscensed physical therapist. My question is can you bill for the 97001 and 97140 (which is treatment of lymphedema) together, and should units be applied for any if these services for a 1 1/2 hour of treatment?

Thanks,
Kristen

Yes you can bill them together, but to my knowledge you may only bill the 97001 once at the initial visit- then it would just be the 97140 until the next re eval- then you would bill the re eval and any other modalities for that day.

Also remember to use the 59 on the eval code or it will be denied. When billing units make sure that the therapist documents time spent on the man therapy. You also need to watch the time because the eval code is untimed.
