Nasal endoscopy, 31231, if documented bilaterally is it appropriate to bill this out bilaterally. If so which modifier would be most appropriate, LT59 or LT52
Thank you in advance.
You cannot bill this code bilaterally because the description of the CPT code says
Nasal endoscopy, diagnostic, unilateral or bilateral (separate procedure).
The payment indicator is 1 meaning the 150% rule does not apply. Also, the MUE count is 1.
Therefore, you would report it as 31231 x 1 unit only.
Thank you so much! Do you have website information that will help me with the MUE in the future for other codes I have ?'s on. Only 1 year into this coding job and I love it however I do not have very many informational resources.
Thank you in advance.
Also, you may want to look into some type of NCCI edits software to assist you in coding. Make sure you use one that updates quartely, because Medicare updates every quarter and there are always changes.
