Good evening,
I have rec'd a path report w/ final diagnois for mass excision of "probable lipoma" . Would I be correct in just coding this 216.5, or lipoma 214.8. excsion was from the chest wall did not go to subQ

I code all benign excisions with the 216.x codes. I think you would be okay using the lipoma code medically speaking but I know the 216.5 would be correct and payable without any problem.

Code to the highest degree of certainty. "Probable", "suspected", "likely", "consistent with" are not definitive, therefore I would not use the lipoma code.
