Wiki Help! 2 Procedures- same day

Our urologist was called intraoperatively to insert bilateral ureteral catheters. Once the other surgeons completed their resection, our doctor was asked to remove the catheters and insert a J stent on the left side only.

How do i code this?
52005-50
52332-LT-78

I know I cannot code the removal of the catheters along with the J stent insert, but does this seem right?

Hi Nancy, 52005 is an inherently bilateral procedure so you do not need to apply modifier 50. Also, 52005 does not have a global period so you do not need to modify 52332 with -78. If the stent placement was under the same anesthesia as the catheter placement, I would only bill 52332.
