Procedure:
Placement of temporary dialysis access catheter with ultrasound guidance

Description:

The are of the right groin was prepped. We used ultrasound to demarcate the vein which was relatively laterally. We made a needle stick and got the artery and then got a subsequent stick into the vein. The arterial bleeding was quite pronounced from our initial stick even though it was just an 18 gauge needle. We went ahead and abandoned attempts to utilize this side and switched to the left side. This time, under direct ultrasound guidance using the ultrasound we watched the needle go into the vein, introduced the J wire. This of course was after sterile preparation using 1% solution of lidocaine. Then, with a 20 cm long dialysis catheter secured it in place with two 3-0 silks. Perfused with heparin both before and after insertion.....

Thanks. I code these all the time, not sure why I'm having a brain-fart today. LOL
