Patient has a stiff finger following a fracture. The fracture was originally repaired via plate and screws, which were still implanted. The patient had a capsulectomy of both metacarpal and interphalangeal joints and removal of hardware due to joint stiffness and painful hardware. Would only the 2 capsulectomies be coded and the hardware removal considered incidental to the capsultectomies since it was removed while they were in there? Or can the capsulectomies and the hardware removal be coded? Thank you!
