When a bone marrow core biopsy reads "H&E and PAS sections show Trabecular with cellular marrow" I know that the H&E is a routine stain and not a billable "special stain" (88113), but what about the PAS? Is that considered routine in this instance? The special stains for this marrow specimen billed are Reticulin,Trichrome and Iron and since the PAS stain is not grouped with these stains I was unsure if it was billable.

Agree, we also charge for the PAS.

Just make sure which PAS stain it is.

88312 (for fungus)
88313 (for mucin, glycogen, glycoprotein, with and without digestion)

Typically for bone marrow it is 88313
