Senior Billing Specialist/Coder Job Description:
Analyzes medical records to accurately code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-10-CM and CPT classification systems. Record types may include inpatient and ambulatory procedures; utilizes the Coding Compliance/Quality Software. Conducts medical record audits and verifies the accuracy of the medical record documentation. Charge posting for inpatient and ambulatory services; provide Accounts Receivable follow-up with insurance carriers and patients on overdue accounts; call, verify and document patients' mental health benefits; obtain authorizations and re-certifications when needed; work with/advise patients on insurance carrier requirements including services not covered. Will assist Business Manager in a variety of tasks as needed including, but not limited to, managing/training department personnel engaged in a variety of registration/billing functions; timekeeping and payroll; etc. Must be organized and able to work independently with speed and accuracy. Must be sensitive to confidential information. Must have excellent communication skills and maintain professional and courteous contact with staff, patients, and insurance carriers.

Job Qualifications:
Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification required with 2 years post certification experience preferred. Minimum of two years experience in patient billing/accounts receivable. Knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid guidelines required. Accounting/bookkeeping background preferred. Competency with computer software as appropriate. Must have excellent communication skills.
