A patient has a Tonsillectomy done, and a few days later the same patient admits the patient for nausea and vomiting. The nausea and vomiting is due to the anesthia the patient is receiving from the procedure.

Can we bill this, or will it be part of the global period?

I m studying for my test and I would like to have a correction if I m wrong.
I understand that everything treated within the global period of a surgery can no be billed separately. And the reason for nauses and vomits are the anesthesia from the surgery.
 
Global Period

Everything within the global period cannot be billed separately, UNLESS the patient is being seen for something completely not related to the surgery.

In the scenario given, I'm trying to figure out if the nausea and vomiting would be due to the procedure the patient is having done, because it's not specifying in the documentation.
 
The surgeon should not bill anything; an admit for vomitting or dehydration is par for course following a tonsillectomy. Something that is billed occasionally during the postoperative period for a tonsillectomy is "control of oropharyngeal hemorrhage" CPT codes 42960-42962.
