Here is the situation:

Patient has surgery performed by another surgeon in another hospital 17 days prior to seeing our surgeon. Patient is having some post op problems and was a admitted to the hospital (by our surgeon) and will more than likely return the OR. The original operating surgeon is from a different practice. Is the admission considered global?

Thanks in Advance for your help!

Question first

My first question is why is patient coming to a totally different practice in the post-op period?

If the admission is the decision for (additional) surgery, then you would use a -57 modifier.

Global period applies ONLY to the physician who performed the procedure (and to any partners in the same practice, same specialty).

Hope that helps.
