I have a physician who performs EGD w/ biopsy and does the CLO test at the ASC. We are trying to determine who can bill for the CLO test. The physician believe he should be able to bill for it. The ASC is right down the hallway from his office. Both his office and the ASC hold the CLIA cert. I have read the ASC guidelines on CMS website and believe it is part of the ASC facility charges if the test is performed and interpreted at the ASC.
(Currently they have been billing it on the professional side with a POS 24 and getting paid for them by Medicare) And the physician is a private physician who has privileges at the ASC but is not credentialed with the ASC.
Can someone shed some light on whether that is correct and if it is; if he takes his sample to his CLIA cert office and performs the CLO test at his office; does that mean he could bill the CLO test from his office (POS 11)?
Then it would be the same as sending it to an outside lab? As an outside lab would bill for the CLO test for H. Pylori.
Any clarification on this matter would be greatly helpfully.
Thank you
Angela
