I have a patient who came in and had a fractured tibia. The knee was x-rayed and examined, and the pt was sent home with no casting or brace. He did have a scheduled follow-up appointment with us, but he cancelled it so we only saw him once. Would a fracture care code have been appropriate to bill out? The patient does not agree with our billing. Was an E&M more appropriate in this case?

If there was a fracture and fracture treatment was done (and documented) then a fracture code is appropriate. There's 90 days of free follow up, but if the pt declined that, it's kinda the patient's problem...
