Hello,

Can anyone explain to me why some people code both a fracture care code with an E/M code for a Fracture only no other injuries. I was always told you either use a Fracture Care Code or an E/M Code.

I am just trying to understand why you could use both.

I believe you were told incorrect information. However, some clinics make the decision to report one or the other and there is nothing wrong with that. The clinic can make that decision. However you can bill an E/M with fracture care.
 
Thank you for the information. I just have one more question on this. If a fracture care and E/M code is use, do you only do that on the first visit for the fracture and follow the 90 day global period after that.

You can only bill fracture care with an office visit once. Remember, fracture care has a 90 day global. So after fracture care is billed, all office visits are bundled into that fracture care and you can only bill X-rays and cast changes during the 90 day global period.
