My ortho sometimes does follow up visits for another ortho for his patients in the hospital. Sometimes these patients are post-op. My ortho has just started turning in these visits as she says she didn't know she could bill for them until she found out the other surgeon has been billing for days he covers for her. My question is how would I bill these charges out? Especially the post-op since she is not taking over all of the post-op care I couldn't bill the procedure with 55. I would be billing an E/M for the visit - would this be paid or do I need to bill w/ another modifier?

Any help on this would be great. Thanks. :)

Your MD can bill visits codes for non-surgical patients. I wonder how
the other MD is billing?

I was wondering the same thing.

So if my doc is following up after surgery - it is basically a freebie? But she can bill for a follow up on a patient who the other ortho is following prior to surgery?
