If a patient comes in with flank pain and the final dx is ureteral calculi. Would you leave the flank pain on with the ureteral calculi diagnosis or remove it?
 
I appreciate the reply, my supervisor claims it should stay and I didn't agree when she checked my charts.
 
Coding guidelines can always be used to back you up. They state:
Codes that describe symptoms and signs, as opposed to diagnoses, are acceptable for reporting purposes when a related definitive diagnosis has not been established (confirmed) by the provider
