Fever with a high temperature reading of 100.6°F can contribute to classifying the diagnosis component as moderate. However, according to guidelines, general systemic symptoms—such as fever, chills, and headache—should not be factored into this classification for determining the level of E&M coding. As a small urgent care group, the majority of our patients present with these systemic symptoms. Unfortunately, we rarely see patients with major systemic symptoms. Any guidance you can provide to help us accurately determine the appropriate level of E&M codes for our clinic patients would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
