Wiki femur nail replacement, please help

i have this patient with femur Aneurysmal bone cysts, UNDERWENT intermudellary NAIL INSERTION IN 2013 ....he is here now for nail replacement ....

Operation Name: right femur nail replacement

Procedures: under GA, lateral position
previous scar skin incision, deep dissection, nail head unlocked
proximal screw removed,
nail removal
new short nail insertion
all op under c arm
closure
dressing

i found a code for removal of nail (20680 Removal of implant; deep (eg, buried wire, pin, screw, metal band, nail, rod or plate))

but can't find a code for nail insertion ......

need help

It would depend in part on why the nail is being placed (i.e. fracture, dislocation) and where (head, shaft, etc). If you look in the CPT index under "Fixation, femur" you'll find a range.

Since you mention the cysts, take a look at 27495, phophylactic treatment of femur.

Depending on their insurance, you may be able to bill the removal separately with a 51 modifier.
