Medical billing and coding are related but different fields. What are the differences in the day-to-day life of a medical biller and a medical coder? What factors are important for expecting great salary?

A medical coder selects procedure and diagnosis codes to be submitted on medical claims. A typical day is reviewing medical records and selecting appropriate codes for the service rendered.

A medical biller submits the medical claims to insurance companies and follows up with insurance carriers for payment of the medical claims. A typical day is entering charges for submission, posting payments received and making follow up phone calls to insurance companies regarding outstanding payments due.

^^^ Great description ^^^

It is also possible to find a job that as a Biller/Coder that combines the two. This may sound good in theory but being primarily a coder you would make more. If you are splitting up your day between billing and coding you will usually not make as much, since billers generally aren't paid as well.
