Hello everyone,
We have been billing 64483 with 77003-26 until the end of December when the description on 64483 changed. Now my md's think that an epidurography(72295) is an acceptable code to bill with the 64483 as long as it is dictated appropriately. I don't feel that this it medically necessary or the proper use of 72295. Am having trouble explaining that 72295 is a diagnostic study. Would appreciate hearing from others on how to handle this.

Thanks,
Judy

Oh those Docs...they can be tricky sometimes! Or they think they are! I think the CPT you're meaning is 72275 (epidurography) and not necessarily 72295 (discography). CCI bundles the epidurography into 64483, not separately payable unless these are done at separate levels. Most carriers follow CCI. If it's really discography you're talking about, are they really inserting contrast dye into the disc and using CT?
