What would be the appropriate CPT code for an orhtopaedic consult in the ER? The patient has Medicare so I know I can't use one of the 9924x consult codes. The patient was seen and discharged by the hospitalist in the ER, my physician was called in as a consult. I'm having a hard time finding the appropriate CPT. Thanks :)

I know the ER has their own codes. The hospitalist physician already charged for the ER visit (99281-99285) and we were asked in for a consult. But this patient has Medicare as their insurance and Medicare hasn't accepted consult codes since 2010 I believe. I'm looking for assistance as to what the appropriate code is to bill since I can't use the 99281-99285 codes or the 99241-99245 codes.

This is in the Medicare manual, look up consults. If the ER provider requests your provider to see a patient you use the ER visit levels 99281-99285. Why do you feel you are not able to use these?
