My doc is doing consults at hospital that has changed over to EPIC.

When I get the documentation I cannot find a "date seen" "date of service" on the consult. I told my doc he must dictate/type "date of service" - he told me Epic is in "real time" so the "date filed" is the date of service, but, i dont buy it.....there are numerous dates that print on the consult...."date filed" ; "note time" ; "hospital encounter"

can anyone advise me on this.....is it common knowledge that the "date filed" is the date of service in Epic?

thanks,

The filed date is not necessarily the date of service in EPIC. Most physicians use a template and have the DOS as one of the components. If they dictate, the date filed is when the note is filed after the final signature from the physician. You are correct. Inpatient notes must have a DOS documented in the note.

If the visit is an outpatient visit, than the encounter date is automatically added by EPIC since it is a one time appointment.
