EKG pre and post cardioversion.
Can I bill for both ,one or none?
My understanding that the pre procedure ekg considered diagnostic therefore can be billed. However the post cardioversion is component of the therapeutic procedure and therefore should not be charged.

any insights will be much appreciated.

I was just doing research on this issue. Is the pre-procedure ekg diagnostic though? Is it actually the basis for the decision to do the cardioversion? Or did the patient already know they were coming in for a cardioversion? My understanding is if it's not the basis for the decision to do the cardioversion, it's not diagnostic, it's more of a baseline screening.

I don't find a Do Not Code With note in the either the cardioversion section or the EKG section, and I don't know how a non-clinical person is expected to know this, but an EKG pre and post is a standard procedure in this process and should be included in the code for cardioversion.
