I am not finding any conclusive information regarding handling the edit between blood transfusion 36430 and a procedure code. Is this bundled? When is it appropriate to bypass the edit? I have case where patient had bilateral mastectomies simple and Modified radical 19303 and 19307, developed hematoma requiring drainage 10140 and then required transfusion for anemia 10140. The transfusion 36430 is editing component against all 3 surgical codes. (this was an observation 3 day stay... mastectomy done on one day and drainage and transfusion next day)..
I found something that documented would not bundle unless for same diagnosis.. in this case would 10140 and 36430 be for same diagnosis.. hemorrhage and resulting anemia.. (not same but related.)
I am just not finding anything definitive on this.. Can anyone assist?
