A 17 y/o comes to the ED with polydispsia, polyuria & glucose of 874, no ketoacidosis is present. He has no hx of DM. The final diagnosis is New onset of DM type 2. Would I report this as E11.9 or E11.65?

E11.9. E11.65 is DM with hyperglycemia and the provider has to document that clearly. As coders we cannot infer from lab values.
