If anyone is familiar with this code or used to use K1016, please provide any assistance that you can. We are struggling to understand the age restriction.
CMS description does not include an age requirement but there is the age requirement symbol next to the code. When I dig down deeper into the description of this code, Optum provides a more detailed description with much more specific use of age 7-12 for ADHD. With the deletion of K1016, which was the perfect code for adult migraine patients, we are being led to use E0733. My concern is that payers are not going to reimburse for this due to the age requirement. Anyone have any experience with this?

HCPCS Code for Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulator for electrical stimulation of the trigeminal nerve E0733

OPTUM lay description: A proprietary external trigeminal nerve stimulation (eTNS) system treats pediatric attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). This nonimplantable device is indicated as a monotherapy, available by prescription only, for patients ages 7 through 12 years, who do not currently take prescription ADHD meds. Intended to be utilized in the home environment during periods of sleep and under caregiver supervision, the system functions by providing therapeutic electrical stimulation of the V1 branch of the trigeminal nerve in the forehead, where it increases metabolic activity in the areas of the brain associated with attention, executive function, and mood. In this therapy, which is initiated just prior to sleep and ends upon wakening in the morning, a customized disposable electrical patch is placed in the center of the patient's forehead just over the eyebrows. A hand-held pulse generator is connected to the patch, where it produces and transmits a proprietary signal to the patch. Report E0733 for the eTNS system and A4541 for associated monthly supplies, including disposable refill electric patches.
