Patient was seen in the office a few weeks prior to his colonoscopy, as his last colonoscopy (5 years ago) he went into A-Fib requiring hospitalization. The patient is concerned about this happening again. Since that time he has been on medical therapy for atrial fibrillation and has not had any symptoms.
The reason for his return for the colonoscopy is due to the fact he has family history of colon cancer. He has no symptoms, and the Doctor states during the consult that the AFib may have been coincidental or related to the preparation or dehydration. They discussed adequate oral hydration prior to the preparation for the colonoscopy. They also discussed taking adequate oral hydration during the preparation for the colonoscopy as well. The patient was advised to take his medications on the day of the procedure to assure rate stability.
