If our podiatrist sees a NEW
patient and does H&P and does nail debridement same day, is he entitled to and E&M on that day.

podiatry

most likely there are more problems with a podiatry patient than just the nail, and yes if the work is documented and done, it can be billed.

If the patient came to the Podiatrist expressly for debribement and that's all that was done, no E&M code. If the patient came for general podiatric issues or symptoms and the need for debribement was a result of the E&M process (exam, etc), then yes, we are reimbursed for the debribement (with a modifier). Having said that, some payers won't reimburse 11720 or 11721, but some will. And some is always worth the effort. :)
