Hello,

Would you bill out an E (external cause) dx code with DME charges? I know that the E code is a secondary code.

Thank you

In that case I would consider the situation. If the DME is the cause of the injury I would. If the DME is the resulting fix to the injury and you can find a suitable E code that I would append the E-Code for specificity. So say a patient came in from a fall and so they did an ultrasound to make sure their pins didn't move from a prior surgery this would require an E code to indicated the reason for the ultrasound.

Thank you very much. I just wasn't sure if you could use an external cause code with a dme product.

You answered my question:)
