Oh, I need help. Coding a surgery where pancreas anomaly has caused a stricture of the duodenum and now the surgeon is excising it to release the stricture. Two small portions of pancreas were excised off the duodenum but no duodenum or any other organ were excised. Trouble finding CPT code for this part of the surgery.

see code 48140...add a mod 52 if you have too, or you can use the unlisted code. Not sure what DX you can use to justify the service

I'm having trouble understanding exactly what was done. From your wording it appears that the portions of the pancreas that were causing the duodenal stricture were just excised off the duodenum. Code 48140 is for resection of the distal portion of the pancreas which would constitute a true removal of part of that organ. Was part of the pancreas cut and removed?

Just trying to get a true picture of the surgery in order to find the best code....thanks for helping to clarify!
